The Opportunity

The Morgridge Institute is hiring a long term, part time, Laboratory Assistant. This individual filling this position will provide laboratory support for the Pagliarini Lab within the Metabolism Theme.  We are seeking a student who can commit to 10-15 hours per week and has availability weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may be opportunities for additional hours- typically during school recess.  Located in the Discovery Building, the Pagliarini Lab it situated in the heart of  the UW-Madison campus at 330 North Orchard Street and is easily accessible by bus.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: preparing stock solutions, reagents, and media; sterilizing lab materials and waste; maintaining a clean laboratory environment; and assisting lab personnel with a variety of tasks. The laboratory assist performs foundational support tasks, ensuring the laboratory remains highly functional and productive. Successful laboratory assistants are self-starters who operate well  both autonomously and under supervision. They are excellent communicators and collaborators, able to efficiently and effectively execute a variety of important and time-sensitive tasks.   Student positons offer flexible schedules, an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, and the ability to network and collaborate with Morgridge staff.

Qualifications

Candidates must be working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. Ideal candidates will have succesfully completed a college chemistry course  and possess practical laboratory experience.
